Our Company History

From Flowers to Freeways...

It was 1948 and Milton Boyd Keith, owner of several Dallas florist shops, was frustrated. The Dallas maps were sadly out of date and his floral delivery drivers were constantly getting lost, orders were being delayed, and some were even cancelled. Keith’s attempt to appeal to the local government entities did not help. Not even the city government had a map that could be called official.

Determined to find a solution to his costly problem, Keith sought aid from the Building Inspection Division of Dallas, the only source of accurate and up-to-date maps of the city. Armed with the proper resources, Keith and his store manager, Lily Kendrick, researched, designed, and indexed hand-drawn maps that anyone could use. Keith began creating more and more maps out of his Oak Lawn flower shop. After the City of Dallas purchased 300 guides for their fire and ambulance workers, it was official. Everyone wanted a MAPSCO Street Guide.

In 1952, the first commercial edition of MAPSCO Street Guide was published. As the metroplex grew, MAPSCO, under the leadership of Lily Kendrick and her son, expanded its potential. In 1971, the Fort Worth Street Guide was published, igniting a MAPSCO flame that spread across Texas. After a half a century of map creation, MAPSCO has gained the reputation of being the most accurate, most current, and most trusted maps in the industry. The MAPSCO commitment to excellence is apparent in every map made. In fact, the University of Texas at Arlington is the official archive of the MAPSCO company, and has preserved over five decades of valuable mapping.

In the age of the Internet, MAPSCO continues to surpass online mapping services, offering the most exact and up-to-date information possible. Period. Every street is displayed on the simple, unique MAPSCO – making it so easy for you to find your way. MAPSCO uses the latest, most accurate data to publish the most up-to-date map data available.
